First funeral

I was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America in June 2004. That gives me the authority and responsibility to marry and bury people. Today, I buried my first. I've done memorial services before, but never a funeral and graveside service.

Actually, I was more prepared, religiously speaking, than I anticipated. The service went smooth, but I had trouble finishing the sermon (like all of my sermons!). The family appreciated it, I think. I really enjoyed it. I don't want to sound glib or morbid -- but I hope I get many oppotunities to minister this way. It was really meaningful ministry, but I am dog tired!

I've had a few other tough cases today in the hospital. Man, I am ready for my afternoon workout.
